We are seeking a dynamic Lead HR Generalist to join our HR team at Onit’s Pune center. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated HR professional to take charge of HR operations for our India team and help drive our employee-centric culture while ensuring the smooth functioning of all HR processes.
Position Overview
As the Lead HR Generalist at Onit, you will be at the forefront of our HR operations in India. You will be responsible for ensuring seamless execution of various HR functions such as talent management, onboarding, performance management, employee engagement, payroll processing, and compliance with HR policies. This role requires you to be a strategic partner who will work closely with senior leadership to enhance HR operations and improve the overall employee experience.
You will lead a team of HR professionals and will be a key player in driving initiatives that impact employee satisfaction and retention. Your role will be pivotal in maintaining operational excellence while fostering a positive, inclusive, and productive work environment for all employees.

Talent Management
Talent management is central to the success of any organization, and as the Lead HR Generalist, you will play a critical role in shaping our talent strategy. Your responsibilities in this area will include:
- Onboarding and Induction: Ensure smooth onboarding experiences for new hires. This includes handling all the necessary formalities, conducting background checks, and guiding new employees through the company’s culture, processes, and benefits. You will also deliver induction presentations to acclimate new hires to the organization.
- Employee Data Management: You will maintain accurate records for all employees. This includes updating and storing employee information in the Human Resource Information System (HRIS), ensuring compliance with data privacy regulations, and tracking employee movements within the organization.
- Exit Management: Managing the exit process is crucial in maintaining good relationships with former employees and understanding areas of improvement. You will coordinate exit interviews, handle the offboarding process, and ensure proper documentation of employee departure.

Employee Engagement
At Onit, we understand that engaged employees are the driving force behind our success. You will be responsible for ensuring high levels of employee satisfaction by:
- Handling Employee Queries: Be the go-to point of contact for employees regarding HR-related matters. You will address their concerns and provide guidance on various HR issues such as leave policies, compensation queries, and benefits.
- Employee Counseling: Providing support to employees facing work-related issues is vital. You will work with the leadership team to resolve conflicts and guide employees to find solutions to their challenges. Your role in employee counseling helps to ensure that employees remain productive and satisfied at work.
- Engagement Activities: You will drive initiatives that foster team spirit and promote employee engagement. This includes planning and executing activities like celebrations, events, and monthly meets. Creating a calendar for employee engagement activities will be one of your key tasks.
- Rewards and Recognition Programs: Design and execute recognition programs that celebrate employee achievements and milestones. By doing so, you will help boost morale and foster a sense of accomplishment within the organization.

Performance Management
Performance management is an ongoing process, and you will be integral in helping the company meet its performance goals. Your responsibilities in this area include:
- Performance Reviews: Assist in the execution of performance reviews for employees. This includes coordinating the performance appraisal process, tracking performance metrics, and ensuring that the review process is fair and transparent.
- Setting Objectives: You will help managers set clear and measurable performance objectives for their teams, ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic goals.
- Continuous Improvement: In collaboration with leadership, you will implement strategies to improve performance management processes, ensuring that Onit maintains high standards of operational excellence.

Payroll and Compensation
Managing payroll effectively and ensuring timely disbursement is essential for employee satisfaction. In this role, you will be responsible for:
- Payroll Processing: You will own the payroll processing for all employees. This includes ensuring timely and accurate salary disbursements, managing payroll queries, and addressing discrepancies.
- Taxation and Compliance: Work with payroll vendors to ensure all tax-related documents are processed correctly. You will also ensure compliance with local taxation laws and manage audits related to payroll.
- Compensation and Benefits: Ensure that Onit remains competitive in the market by constantly reviewing and updating compensation structures. You will also ensure employees receive the appropriate benefits, including medical insurance, bonuses, and other perks.

HR Policies and Compliance
To ensure that Onit stays compliant with local and international regulations, you will:
- Develop and Update HR Policies: Own the creation, maintenance, and implementation of HR policies, ensuring they remain up-to-date with current regulations and standards. This includes reviewing employee handbooks and implementing changes as necessary.
- Legal Compliance: Stay informed about labor laws and ensure that Onit is compliant with all local and international HR regulations. This includes keeping up with changes in HR laws and ensuring that all policies are updated accordingly.
Must-Have Skills and Experience
As the Lead HR Generalist, you must possess the following qualifications, skills, and experience:
- Experience: A minimum of 8 years in an HR Generalist or HR Operations role with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity. Experience in a dynamic IT product development company will be a strong advantage.
- HR Team Management: Prior experience managing a small HR team (2-3 members) and delivering results through collaborative teamwork.
- HR Systems Proficiency: Experience working with Human Resource Management Systems (HRMS) and proficient in MS Office tools such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with employees at all levels within the organization.
- Problem Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess issues and implement effective solutions.
- Knowledge of Legal Compliance: Deep understanding of labor laws and HR compliance requirements in India.
- Employee Engagement Expertise: Ability to design and execute employee engagement initiatives and recognition programs to boost morale and foster a positive workplace culture.
