Job Overview

Atlassian is seeking a Lead Payroll Analyst – India to oversee the payroll function for the Indian region while also supporting payroll operations across APAC and EMEA. This role plays a critical part in ensuring seamless payroll processing, compliance with tax regulations, and continuous process improvement. Key Responsibilities

As a Lead Payroll Analyst, your role will include:

  1. Payroll Management & Processing

  • Lead India payroll function while working closely with the payroll processing team.
  • Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for India, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
  • Manage payroll processing for other APAC and EMEA regions, as required.
  • Ensure compliance with local tax laws, social security contributions, and government regulations.
  • Process salary calculations, deductions, bonuses, reimbursements, and other payroll components.
  • Partner with external vendors to execute payroll efficiently.
  1. Compliance & Audits

  • Maintain strict audit controls for payroll processes and identify any gaps.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory laws such as income tax, provident fund (PF), gratuity, professional tax, and other Indian labor laws.
  • Collaborate with internal audit teams to ensure payroll compliance and governance.
  • Support internal and external audits with accurate and timely reporting.
  1. Process Improvement & Automation

  • Drive continuous process optimization for payroll workflows.
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities to streamline payroll operations.
  • Improve data accuracy and payroll efficiency using tools like Workday and Jira.
  • Develop scalable payroll processes to support a growing workforce.
  1. Employee Support & Communication

  • Respond to employee payroll-related inquiries, resolving discrepancies promptly.
  • Partner with HR and Finance teams to ensure a seamless employee experience.
  • Communicate payroll changes, policies, and benefits effectively to employees.
  • Lead employee education sessions on payroll processes and tax regulations.
  1. Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with HR, Finance, IT, and Compliance teams to align payroll functions with company policies.
  • Support new market expansions, year-end payroll reconciliations, tax reporting, and audits.
  • Act as a payroll subject matter expert (SME) for internal stakeholders.
  • Partner with global payroll teams to ensure consistency in payroll operations across multiple countries.

Qualifications & Skills Required

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in global payroll processing, including large and complex payrolls.
  • Strong knowledge of India payroll laws, taxation, and compliance.
  • Experience with payroll systems such as Workday and Jira (preferred).
  • Proficiency in managing payroll processes across multiple countries (APAC & EMEA preferred).
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and people management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in leading payroll projects, system implementations, and process automation.
  • Knowledge of third-party payroll vendors and vendor management.
