As a Data Scientist in Model Risk Management, you’ll be on the frontline of safeguarding PayPal’s financial health, reputation, and regulatory compliance. Your work will ensure AI models used across fraud, credit, and marketing functions are accurate, compliant, ethical, and resilient.
🔍 Key Responsibilities – What You’ll Do
🧠 Model Oversight and Risk Evaluation
- Conduct in-depth validation of machine learning and AI models used in:
- Fraud detection
- Credit underwriting
- Marketing analytics
- Ensure models meet PayPal’s Model Risk Management (MRM) Policy and regulatory standards.
⚙️ Governance and Compliance
- Implement enterprise-wide AI risk governance frameworks.
- Collaborate across PayPal teams to ensure alignment with regulatory expectations (e.g., OCC, Fed, GDPR).
🔄 Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with business stakeholders and model developers to:
- Improve model performance
- Remediate model issues
- Provide subject matter expertise in quantitative modeling
🧪 AI Innovation and Research
- Explore agentic AI technologies (LLMs, RAG, autonomous agents) to drive automation.
- Contribute to cutting-edge R&D that improves model robustness and risk detection efficiency.
🎓 What We’re Looking For – Skills and Qualifications
📘 Required Education & Experience
- Master’s or Ph.D. in:
- Statistics
- Computer Science
- Applied Mathematics
- Engineering
- 2–5 years of hands-on experience in:
- AI/ML modeling
- Model validation
- Financial risk analytics
🤖 Technical Skills
- Expert in ML algorithms:
- Logistic regression, time series, random forests, SVMs
- XGBoost, CNNs/RNNs, transformers, LLMs
- Tools & Programming:
- Python (Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch)
- SQL
- Hadoop/Spark
- Familiarity with:
- Model documentation frameworks
- MLOps tools for versioning, tracking, and auditing
🧠 Domain Knowledge
- Exposure to one or more of:
- Credit scoring
- Fraud risk modeling
